Crafting Revolutionary Technology For Space and Earth Explorations

By Rajitha Sivakumaran Vast and enigmatic, space has incited a considerable amount of fascination despite being an impossible destination for the average Earthling. Everything from ancient astronomy to modern-day extraterrestrials demonstrates our fixation with the boundless extension of our skies, but only a few devote their lives to studying the mysteries of space. In the Canadian context, Dr. Jean de Lafontaine is one such example. President of NGC Aerospace and a professor with the Université de Sherbrooke’s faculty of engineering, Dr. de Lafontaine’s fascination with space exploration has only intensified with time. He founded NGCRead more...

PROBA-1 celebrates 15 years in-orbit

Sherbrooke – October 27th 2016 – PROBA-1, the first in a series of mini-satellites launched in Earth orbit by the European Space Agency (ESA), celebrates today its fifteen year of operation without failure. Initially built for a two-year lifespan, the satellite still continues to provide images of the Earth allowing scientists to analyze climate change and global warming as well as monitoring natural and man-made disasters. PROBA-1 was the first European satellite to include two breakthrough technologies developed by NGC Aerospace. These two innovations allowed a reduction in the cost of satellite operation, by making it autonomous, and a reductionRead more...
